Surrounded by hills and mountains, rivers and rivulets, flora and fauna, Gokul-Parvati Rural College Kuntara was born in 1978 in a small private house called ‘’KUTALI’’ so called a mill.
The Concept of dreaming of a college by that time in a remotest village like Kuntara stroke in the minds of the Intellectuals like this. A meeting was organised informally under a banyan tree in front of the old college building among all educationists,social workers and other elite mass of this locality. Late. SurendraNath Sharma Retired I.A.S Officer of nearby village Jalibahal acted like an advisor. Besides him late. Minaketan Patel former Principal of Kuchinda College Kuchinda , Late. Prafulla Chandra Patel Kuntara,the founding father of the college, Late. Manohar Patel Kuntara, Late. Kamal Lochan Patel Kuntara, Late. RaghunathMeher former Head Master Manohar High School Kuntara, Late. Chudamani Patel Kusumi, Late. Somanath Patel Kuntara,LateKhadiMahakul, Bomleikela,LateLalit Mohan Naik,Dumbermal, Late Ratan Singh Patel, Rngiatikira, Sri Debadatta Panda, Sri Prahallad Acharya were present in the meeting. The other prominent villagers who were present to encourage the meeting were Late. RasanandPatel , Sri Bhubaneswar Patel , Sri Duryodhan Pandey and Sri Surendra Patel.
The great and praise worthy person who donated a sum of one lakh rupees as fixed deposit for opening of the college was Late. Gokuleswar Patel(H)KantapaliJharsuguda after whom the college was named GokulParvati Rural College ,Kuntara. Parvati being his consort.
Other some benevolent and land donors who donated land in the name of the college were Late. DillipNayak, Late. Chaitanya Nayak, Late. HrushikeshNayak of neighbouring village Pandaripathar.The College has 5.47 acres of land of its own. It is 22 km away from the sub-divisional Head quarter Kuchinda and 60 km from the South- Eastern railway at Bamra station.
Now the new college building is situated amongst thick and green foliage at the outskirt of the village Kuntara by the side of the PWD road which runs from Paruavadi to Brahmanidihi, a length of 35k.m., totally in a pastoral setting.
The college has been set up to cater to the educational needs of the masses especially poor people belonging to schedule Tribe and Schedule Castes. The college imparts education both in +2 Arts and Science and +3 Arts streams.
The college is affiliated to CHSE, Odisha, Bhubaneswar and Sambalpur University, JyotiViharBurla.The college It has a number of class rooms , staff and Students’ commonrooms, Laboratories, a separate principal’s room , a +2 ladies’ hostel and two +3 ladies’ hostels one is funded by UGC and another one by ONGC and a big playground.
The college is proud of having qualified and well experienced teachers along with some young energetic teachers.
